WHO ARE WE?
TALEL is against a system, against norms and rules. Talel is a call for freedom. Talel
is an invitation to be anti conformist, an invitation to disrupt. We believe, to step forward
one needs to be comfortable with disruption as in disruption resides true progress.
TALEL fosters novelty, through shapes, volumes and structures. While we navigate
the agenda of an ever-changing world, Talel stands tall as a witness of individuality. A
celebration of the self, invididual stories and every little branch in which our collective
identity is rooted. Talel is for those comfortable with their past stories, their future steps
and the reality of a no-so realistic today. TALEL remains for those who dare, a little
earlier than others to see the world through their very eyes, through a lens far from
common norms but a step closer to tomorrow. We aim to be in this abstract space
between culture and future, some would say we swim against all waves which leaves
us wondering, do you actually swim If you’re not up against the flow? TALEL keeps
you wondering, sparks conversation by offering a true space for collective
experimentation.
TALEL IS A SPACE FOR SELF-EXPRESSION AND COLLECTIVE EXPERIMENTATION.
WHO IS BEHIND TALEL?
At TALEL we don’t believe in traditional and conventional bios, we’re firm believers of stories and ours is the result of many stories that crossed paths. Before meeting TALEL 17 years ago, our founder Leila ROUKNI left Dijon to study business in Paris where she ended up at the studios of institutional powerhouses such as Chloe, Isabel Marant and Saint Laurent - truly training and shaping her sharp eye for accessory design, with
a philosophy that transcends expected design prerogatives and pushes existing
boundaries. From there, TALEL as you know it today emerged.
Born in France from Moroccan origins, Leila’s vision is a true result of this cultural juxtaposition allowing her to explore design through a broader lens. One that isn’t physically limited to borders and boundaries. After giving birth to her first born; Omar, Leila describes a vision that shifted - certainly infused with more utopia and hope for a
better world. While motherhood certainly brought softness to Leila’s vision today, her desire and need for aesthetically sharp artefacts is evolving bringing TALEL to new heights and firmer grounds.
We believe that we define our stories, they don’t define us. Leila’s appeal for fashion started early but felt like a farfetched desire, although her mother used to sew that appeal couldn’t translate into dreams that easy. TALEL is the result of many dreams and decisions that are far from bring unanimous, many places, many faces, many streets and humans. Leila’s values are very rooted in her reality, her experiences and
environment. “There’s a brutality about TALEL, one that isn’t violent yet very authentic. It’s an abrupt shift” she says.
